Curriculum

The curriculum at Michaelchurch Escley Primary School encompasses the National Curriculum, Religious Education, Cross-Curricular themes and dimensions (e.g. Citizenship, Personal, Social and Health Education, Economic Awareness, Environmental Education) and extra-curricular activities where possible.

There are 22.5 hours of curriculum time weekly at Key Stage 1 and 23.75 hours at Key Stage 2.

The National Curriculum

Four Core Subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Information Communication Technology (ICT)

Six Foundation Subjects: History, Music, Art, Geography, Design & Technology and Physical Education

  • Throughout their course of study in these subjects children are helped to:
  • Develop lively, inquiring minds, the ability to question, debate rationally and apply themselves enthusiastically to all they undertake.
  • Develop personal, moral and spiritual values; respect for religious beliefs and tolerance of other people’s cultures and religions.
  • Use language and number effectively.
  • Understand the world in which they live and foster a caring and responsible attitude towards the global environment.
  • Acquire understanding, knowledge and skills relevant to adult life and employment in a fast-changing world including developing skills in a range of technology.
  • Appreciate human achievements and aspirations.
The school belongs to the Golden Valley Pyramid of Schools and as such is able to share staff expertise and resources with the other schools in the group. This enables us, despite being small, to provide a wide and diverse curriculum to meet the needs of each child.
